The COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong continues to rebound.
The Hospital Authority announced today (20th) that a nurse in the internal medicine ward of the North District Hospital had a preliminary diagnosis and felt mildly unwell the day before (18th). Since the nurse has worked in the isolation ward for the past 3 months, he has to take care of the confirmed patients. Wear suitable personal protective equipment during this period and go to work on the last day of January 14.
Five internal medicine nurses were classified as close contacts because they had party or dine with the nurse and required quarantine.
A few days ago, a physician in the Intensive Care Department of the North District Hospital who had taken care of the confirmed patient confirmed the diagnosis. The Hospital Authority admitted that they had been in contact with the same confirmed patient, but still had to investigate whether the two were unrelated.
Yu Huiling, Chief Administrative Manager (Medical Effectiveness and Technology Management) of the Hospital Authority, explained that a nurse in the internal medicine ward of the North District Hospital felt slightly unwell the day before (18th) and went to the community testing center yesterday (19th) to take samples. The results were submitted today. Initially positive and awaiting admission.
The nurse has been working in the isolation ward for the past three months and has to take care of the confirmed patients. The last day of work is the 14th of this month.
After the contact tracing investigation, a total of 5 medical nurses were listed as close contacts to be quarantined. 4 of them had gathered with the nurse in the past weekend and 1 had eaten outside the hospital together.
No patients were classified as close contacts due to wearing suitable personal protective equipment during work.
The Hospital Authority will arrange for relevant staff in the isolation ward and internal medicine ward to perform virus tests, and the relevant wards will also stop accepting new cases.
The HA once again reminded that employees must avoid eating together or social gatherings. They feel high risk and can contact the hospital for testing.

The doctor had intubated the confirmed patient (Case No. #9049) on January 5. The nurse who was initially confirmed to have taken care of the same patient while working in the ward, including the nebulization procedure, must smell high-concentration oxygen.
Nurses have full protective clothing because they work in a high-risk environment.
The authorities have taken 89 environmental samples in the hospital, all of which were negative, and will be tested with the relevant staff. A total of 180 employees in the intensive care department and internal medicine department have all tested negative.
Yu Huiling did not disclose the address of the confirmed nurse, but pointed out that it is not a mandatory testing building.
