The corona pandemic has made it very clear how important digitization is in schools.

The Graßlfing elementary school often sets a shining example: This is also shown by a sports project with SV Esting - whose trainers, in turn, are fully volunteer.

Olching

- Even at home schooling, the children of the Graßlfing elementary school do not have to do without their usual physical education lessons.

The SV Esting organizes an online sports lesson with each class once a week via the Zoom video platform.

In sports monopoly, for example, the children cannot buy the various streets with money but with a sports exercise.

Jumping jacks or squats are due for rent.

The trainers also offered snowball training.

The students had to throw up and catch paper balls, hit a container or roll through a course.

Cooperation with sports club

"We always try to play a game so that it is not so dry," explains Jelena Tancic from SV Esting.

She organizes online physical education.

The school has been working with the association since the 2015/16 school year.

Rector Cathrin Theis explains how this came about: “Back then, we had a great cooperation with the Dreiklang music school and wanted a counterpart in the field of sports.

The contact with SV Esting came about because I have been a member there for decades. "

At first there was only one offer for older students.

Third graders can choose a major sport such as gymnastics, swimming, athletics, circus, dance or ball games for two years.

A trainer from SV Esting and a sports teacher from the school then lead these sports lessons together.

“The trainers have a lot of know-how.

And of course two sports teachers can do more with the students than one, ”says Theis.

In addition, new faces are often motivating for the students.

Two years ago, the school and the association expanded their collaboration: together with a health insurance company, they started the “Pfififfix” project for the first grade.

A marmot as a sports mascot

A stuffed marmot takes the children on adventures in which they have to master sporting challenges.

“It's the big hit with our first graders,” says Theis.

It is important for them to show the students how to spend their free time in times when the children spend a lot of time in front of the cell phone and computer.

"We have to set an example."

But with the corona-related lockdown, everything changed.

“We wanted to continue the collaboration,” says Tancic from SV Esting.

That is why the trainers spontaneously offered a 30-minute zoom unit for the fourth grade.

“That was very well received, and inquiries came from the other classes immediately,” said Tancic.

So SV Esting now offers 16 online sports lessons per week.

The club is not paid for it, but: "It's great advertising for us."

It had already been shown beforehand that the students take part in the club's holiday program more often because they already knew the coaches, explains Jelena Tancic.

“For us it's also the highlight of the day.

The children are so happy to see each other and join in with great enthusiasm, ”says the trainer.

Graßlfinger Rector Theis also raves about the project in the highest tones: “We had provided sports activities from the start, but we would never have managed to do so to this extent and in this extreme variety.” For you and your colleagues, who are currently far beyond Committed beyond normal working hours, be it a nice relief.

And not just for them.

The parents are also very enthusiastic about it.

“Whole families often take part,” says Theis.
