The notice stated that there were two confirmed cases in a unit on the 12th floor of Block D of Chungking Mansions, believed to have originated from ethnic minority groups in Jordan. Residents who had been in contact with the persons concerned were urged to go to Yau Ma Tei Leong Hin Lee Community Center and other places for testing as soon as possible.

The reporter saw at the scene that there were a total of 8 units on the 12th floor, of which at least 4 units were hotels, and one unit could be converted into a subdivision room. Through the windows, we could see that the pipes on the outer wall of the building were old.

Some residents on this floor said that they had moved to the renovated unit in the building with their son last year and believed that there should be no problems with the pipes of their units.

According to her, many hotels are not occupied, but people of South Asian descent live on the same floor.

Chungking Mansion is not located in a designated area subject to mandatory testing. The resident said that the test was completed in the hospital a few months ago, and now he hopes to be tested again, and is considering whether he needs to move to his daughter’s home temporarily.

She pointed out that the building where her daughter lives in Jordan is also outside the designated area.

There are temperature detectors at the entrance of Chungking Mansion. Most people wear masks, but a few merchants do not cover their mouths and noses.

When a minority ethnic group is working in the office of Chungking Mansions, he said that a social worker advises merchants and customers to wear masks.

He pointed out that the building did not have a temperature detector a few months ago, and that epidemic prevention measures have been strengthened and many masks have been distributed.

The government should also provide more relevant support.

He mentioned that the Center for Health Protection recently stated that ethnic minorities gather more and have a high risk of infection, which once again disappoints many ethnic minorities, who are discriminated against as "easy targets."

He also pointed out that the free virus testing under the government does not include refugees and is ignored by society and hopes to cover them.

He was worried that people from Yau Tsim Mong Building would stay in the hotel for isolation in the Grand Building and increase the risk of infection.

He Liming, director of health promotion at the Center for Health Protection, said recently that ethnic minorities have many gatherings due to their culture and religion, and they like to walk together in the village.

Moreover, they live in a crowded environment and have a higher risk of infection, and need to strengthen publicity and education.

The speech was accused of discriminating against ethnic minorities.

The Chief Executive Carrie Lam clarified that the government is not blaming a certain ethnic group for causing the outbreak, but emphasized that only some people have poor hygiene and are more susceptible to infection.
