A new achievement that adds to the balance of Syrian doctors and saves the life of a patient in his forties, achieved by the young doctor, neurosurgeon, Abu Salim, after his success in removing a tumor of 6-7 cm in a sensitive area inside the brain

In a statement to SANA, Dr. Selim explained that the surgery that took place last week and took ten hours saved the life of a patient in his forty years who had been suffering for about 8 years from a healthy tumor of 6-7 cm in the cerebellar cerebellar angle, which is a rare tumor in terms of size and location. The global incidence rate ranges between brain tumors from 0.5 to 2% in the world, and its occurrence is interpreted as a congenital tumor that has increased in size over time.

According to the young surgeon, before the removal of the tumor, the patient had a poor health condition and reached the stage of inability to eat or walk, loss of hearing with headache and permanent vomiting, considering that this is a natural result due to the presence of the tumor at the location of the passage of the nerves responsible for the sense of hearing, swallowing, movement of the face and its formation of great pressure The cranial nerves are the main drivers of pressure, pulse and oxygen regulation.

The surgery was performed, as Dr. Selim explained, in two stages, the first was to drain the cerebrospinal fluid from the head to the abdomen, the second was to remove the tumor from the cerebellum and liberate the nerves, and the surgery was done using a microscope in some stages and endoscopy in others.

Dr. Salim pointed out that the difficulty of eradicating this type of tumor lies in avoiding any damage to the nerves or arteries on which the tumor is located, stressing that the patient discharged from the hospital in good health and began to gradually restore his normal life.

Dr. Ibaa Salim, born in 1987, a graduate of the Faculty of Human Medicine at Al-Baath University, obtained a specialization in neurosurgery from Tishreen University Hospital in Lattakia, and last year he discussed a master's thesis entitled (Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Cervical Spinal Cord Disease Patients), through which he shed light on modern technology internationally through a specific position for imaging The cervical spine gives greater accuracy in diagnosis, which contributes to early treatment or surgical intervention.
