Arab and international reactions continued to condemn the two suicide terrorist bombings that took place today in the center of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in which dozens of people were killed and wounded.
The Palestinian Presidency condemned these two bombings, expressing solidarity with Iraq and its people and condolences to the families of the victims of the heinous terrorist act that targeted defenseless innocent people.
In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, affirming that Egypt stands by Iraq in its efforts to maintain security and stability and confront terrorism and extremism in all its forms.
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the terrorist attacks, targeting safe citizens and destabilizing Iraq, and affirmed in a statement, "Lebanon's full solidarity and sympathy with the Republic of Iraq, the people and the government, following this tragic attack."
In addition, the General Secretariat of the General Conference of Arab Parties condemned the two terrorist bombings.
The Secretary-General of the General Conference of Arab Parties, Qassem Saleh, said in a statement today, “This terrorist act in its timing and manner confirms the endeavor of terrorist groups incubated from the United States to recall their presence and aims to thwart the efforts of the Iraqi brothers to cleanse Iraq of the remnants of (ISIS) takfiri and reorganize Political life, curbing foreign interference and expelling the American occupier from Iraqi lands.
The Islamic Action Front in Lebanon also affirmed that "ISIS terrorism and the sinful bombings carried out by terrorist organizations in Syria and Iraq will not deter the Arab people in both countries from pursuing the march and achieving security and stability, nor will it undermine their resolve and solid will."
Internationally, Pope Francis of the Vatican described the two terrorist bombings that took place today in Baghdad as an act of brutality and futility, expressing his deep sadness over the casualties.
AFP quoted the Pope as saying in a telegram addressed to the Iraqi President Barham Salih that he is "confident that everyone will seek to overcome violence with brotherhood, solidarity and peace."
In the statement, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq strongly condemned the two terrorist attacks, asserting that "such a despicable act will not weaken Iraq’s march towards stability and prosperity."
For its part, the Italian Foreign Ministry condemned the suicide bombings and expressed its condolences to the families of the victims.
Earlier, the Iraqi Minister of Health, Hassan Al-Tamimi, announced that the death toll from the two suicide bombings that took place in Tayaran Square in central Baghdad had risen to 32 dead and 110 injured.
