After Fiat and Mini, Renault succumbs to the neo-retro wave and unveils an updated R5. No, you're not dreaming. The Renault 5 will be reborn. No, you're not dreaming.

The Renault 5 will be reborn.

It is the emblem of the “Renaulution”, the strategic plan presented last Thursday by Luca de Meo, the CEO of the diamond firm.

Without being too caricature, the prototype imposes itself without offending the purist too much.

"It evokes as much the car of 1972 as the dazzling Turbo version of 1980 and the Supercinq of 1984"

, assures Gilles Vidal, the new design boss, who only had a few weeks to give life to a project that Luca de Meo took out of a drawer.

The 21st century R5 memorized shape but changed size.

More so mini than that, the new model measures almost 50 centimeters more than its ancestor (3.96 meters) and takes ease in width (2.03 meters), mimicking the Turbo with its fender wideners.

It now has five doors while the first R5 was content with three.

"The R5 prototype revives the memories and emotions of a historic icon

,

"

says Gilles Vidal.
