New US President Joe Biden signed six presidential decrees last night (Thursday) that repealed parts of his predecessor Donald Trump's rigid immigration policy.

Among the decrees, signed by the Democratic president at a White House ceremony hours after he was sworn in, was a decision to lift travel bans from 13 countries, mostly Muslim and African, to halt the construction of the wall on the border with Mexico and make Trump's decision preventing illegally staying immigrants from counting In the voting districts for Congress.

In addition, Biden signed a memorandum of understanding to preserve the DACA program, which is designed to prevent the deportation of immigrants who came to the country as children, known as "dreamers."

The new president has repealed Trump's order calling for tougher enforcement across state borders, as well as a one-hundred-day freeze on the deportation of some immigrants.

In addition, another controversial plan by the previous administration, which forced more than 65,000 asylum seekers to return to Mexico while they await court decisions in the United States, will be canceled.

It is unclear what will happen to the immigrants already included in the plan, many of whom have been stuck in crowded tent camps on the southern border for months.

The quick steps Biden has taken on the issue of immigration show that like Trump, he puts the issue at the center of his agenda - only in the completely opposite direction.

Biden's decision to immediately lift his predecessor's travel restrictions has been praised by business organizations and immigrant activists.

Myron Brilliant, in charge of international relations at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said the order "was inconsistent with U.S. values" and that its repeal would help "restore our credibility in the international arena."

Since the outbreak of the corona plague, traffic into the United States has been significantly restricted and at this point restrictions on non-essential travel will continue.

Biden has not yet drawn up a clear plan in relation to an order from March last year issued by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that allows authorities to deport almost all those entering through the borders.

Some 380,000 people were denied return to their countries or repulsed to Mexico since then, before customs and border services data.

Incoming National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan told reporters on Tuesday that it would be "unwise" to reach the border now due to restrictions on the procedure for absorbing asylum seekers.

"We want to change the situation at the border, but it will take some time," he said amid convoys of migrants migrating from Central America to the United States in recent days.

According to a memorandum shared by the new administration with members of Congress, reached by the Reuters news agency, on January 29 Biden will sign orders restoring protection for asylum seekers, intensify the refugee absorption process and establish a task force to reunite immigrant families separated by the previous administration.

According to the memorandum, the administration will also examine restrictions imposed by Trump over the past four years on legal immigration to the United States, including a regulation that makes it difficult for poor immigrants to obtain permanent residency.

Beyond the orders, Biden has passed to Congress legislation that is supposed to pave the way for citizenship for some 11 million immigrants living in the United States illegally.

Despite Democrats 'control of the Senate, through Vice President Camela Harris' breach of equality, disagreements between the two parties have in the past led to the failure of reforms in the immigration system.

On Tuesday, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio said the wording of the law is "hopeless" because it includes "a full pardon for people who are here illegally."

Proponents of Biden's policies say in private talks that the law should be used more as a statement of intent that would lead to a series of smaller, more focused laws that could receive wider political support from both parties.
