Shift work in the Wartenberg town hall: Part of the VG team is in the home office, the other in the office on the market square in Wartenberg.

We are looking at everyday life in the municipal administration that has changed due to the corona.

FROM KLAUS KUHN

Wartenberg - The staff always change their location on a weekly basis.

However, whether this is a future solution in view of the lack of space in the town hall, which has already become public, remains to be discussed.

In any case, administrative manager Werner Christofori could imagine this in terms of family friendliness, but also sees the disadvantages: Anyone who has to do with party traffic should be in the town hall if possible.

Josef Straßer, Langenpreisingen mayor and chairman of the administrative association, reports that VG provides hardware and software for employees who work from home.

The telephone numbers in the town hall would be changed.

The new telephone system, which was recently procured, creates the highest level of security.

“We have a software license that prevents the employee's private number from being displayed to the customer,” says Straßer.

“We don't want that then - what do I know?

- someone calls the town hall employees privately at midnight. ”This measure to protect the staff was important.

The connection is not always perfect.

It could sometimes happen that you immediately notice that the mayor's right hand is currently working in the home office.

Straßer: "Yes, there are areas where something depends, then the calls arrive on the cell phone."

But otherwise everything works fine, with one exception: “It doesn't work at the residents' registration office.

It's hard for me to tell the customer to come to Kreuzstrasse. ”In the building department, too, only half the team is always there, the other at home at the desk.

“It is important that operations are running,” says Straßer.

That is guaranteed.

Christofori confirms this, but also admits technical difficulties.

“Yes, we are working on it.

We have already noticed that it is sometimes also due to the mobile phone software or the manufacturer. ”People are already thinking about telephony via laptop, which, however, means costs for the software.

When asked about the impending lack of space in the town hall, which has already led to the first indications of structural measures (we reported), Christofori says that partial home office is a conceivable solution, but one shouldn't expect too much from it.

The fact that closeness to the citizen ultimately does not work properly digitally speaks against it.

Conversations via video conference, on the other hand, could become an issue, and that will increase: “It doesn't make sense to ask an architect to come from Munich for half an hour.” Digitization will increase, even if it cannot replace personal contact and will.

Nevertheless: "We don't know what will come after Corona," says Christofori.
