Colombia exceeded the threshold of 50,000 deaths from Covid-19 in ten and a half months of the pandemic on Thursday, while the country is facing a second wave of contamination which threatens to overwhelm hospitals.
In its latest daily report, the Ministry of Health reported 395 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths listed to 50,187, for 1,972,345 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus since the detection of the first case on March 6.

The increase in contamination recorded since the holidays and the end-of-year holidays has led the authorities to impose travel restrictions in a dozen departments, where the occupancy rate of intensive care units (ICU) exceeds 70% .
In addition, the mayors of the country's main cities, including Bogota, decreed strict containment this weekend, for the third time in a row.
The government imposed general confinement on March 25, extended for more than five months.
