The Civil Service Commission is investigating a complaint according to which the chairman of the fire brigade, Major General Avi Ankuri, reported that he worked in extinguishing the huge fires that occurred in Carmel four years ago when in practice he was apparently not present at the event.

Documents recently received by the Civil Service Commission show that Ankuri sent his commanders an allegedly false report that in November 2016 he worked for four consecutive days around the clock and sleepless in Operation "Fire and Water" to put out the huge fire in Carmel, although the complaint was not present.

As you may recall, the fire that occurred about four years ago was one of the largest fires in the history of the State of Israel, and only miraculously did it end without loss of life, but the damage to property and natural values was enormous and unprecedented.

A huge wave of arson that swept the country in late November 2016, reminded me of a scene of disaster that required a national effort to extinguish the many fires in Haifa, the Galilee and the entrances to Jerusalem.

"The fact that there were no casualties in the huge wave of fires is a great miracle," say senior firefighters and rescuers.

The fire started on the morning of November 24, 2016 as a result of arson in four different hotspots, and soon the fires of fire threatened the neighborhoods of the city of Haifa and nearby communities.

The fire damage was enormous: 85,000 residents were evacuated from their homes, hundreds were injured by smoke inhalation, about 600 homes and 123 vehicles were completely damaged.

The rescue fire brigade declared a state of emergency and general recruitment, and hundreds of firefighters were launched from stations all over the country in an effort to stop the raging fire.

Although the fire brigade announced a general recruitment of fighters to fight the raging fire, according to the complaint to the Civil Service Commission, the chairman of the Ankuri committee was not included in the said recruitment. In fact, according to the claim, Against his commanders in the Labor Court in Haifa.

As part of the preparations for the legal hearing, the Fire and Rescue Commission has examined Ankuri's hourly reports in recent years.

To their amazement, they discovered that after the fire in Carmel in 2016, the committee chairman reported about 90 consecutive hours of operational shutdown even though they claimed he was not assigned or arrived at the scene of the fires at all. The civil service, "says a firefighter, adding," None of the hundreds of fighters who actually fought the flames at their own risk submitted such an unusual and high hourly report as the one Ankuri submitted that earned him a significant salary increase. "

Documents received by "Israel Today" indicate that the suspicions and findings of a false report have been transferred in recent days to the Disciplinary Division of the Civil Service Commission after being thoroughly examined and examined in the fire and rescue system.

"The chairman of the committee has cynically and shamefully exploited a national crisis, in order to win a significant monetary reward that he is not entitled to at all," a firefighter said.

It should be noted that it has recently been decided to file an indictment against Ankuri regarding riots at a large number of conferences and meetings, disruption to the fire commissioner in the performance of his duties and violation of his work routine and misconduct.

Just last month, a scathing lawsuit was filed against Ankuri that includes no less than six charges, including suspicions of false attendance reports, disobedience despite his commanders and filing a false affidavit in court.

In addition, disciplinary proceedings have been conducted against Ankuri in recent months on suspicion of raising tens of thousands of shekels and prohibiting the use of workers' money for legal aid to Jerusalem District Commander Tepser Suissa, who was running for fire and rescue commissioner at the time.

Ankuri refused to comment on the news even though he was asked to do so several times.

The Fire Commission declined to comment.
