The Be'er Sheva District Court today (Thursday) sentenced Artium Kapustin, a 43-year-old resident of Ashdod, to 18 years in prison, after he was convicted of murdering his 66-year-old mother Irina in January 2017. It should be noted that the court reduced the defendant's sentence Because he always took care of their mother's needs, and a lot of visiting her and cooking her meals, due to the fact that she lived alone in the hostel.

About six months ago, the court convicted Kapustin, who murdered his mother after brutally beating her and thus leading to her death.

The court ruled that Kapustin murdered his mother with significant violence and equanimity, and there is no escape from his conviction for the murder offense under the Penal Code after its amendment.

In February 2017, the Southern District Attorney's Office (Criminal) filed an indictment against Artyom Kapustin.

According to the facts of the indictment, on January 14, 2017, while the mother was staying at her son's home, Kapustin violently attacked her in parts of her various body parts, using various objects, with no known motive, and caused her death.

Kapustin denied the charges against him and claimed that because he was weak and drunk himself, he tried to talk to the deceased and she murmured.

He claims he dragged his late mother into the house, and called the police, when all the while he thought his mother was drunk, so she murmured and did not respond.

Defendant claimed he called police and his girlfriend, and thought police would help him transfer the deceased to her home in the hostel. 

The panel of judges rejected most of his claims and ruled that the defendant murdered his mother with significant cruelty and violence.

Defendant denied assaulting and killing his mother.

He further claimed that he found her lying in the yard of his house, and he brought her into the house and called the police.

The police investigation revealed that the background to the murder was an argument between them over the use of the mother's credit card.
