The Court of Cassation canceled by postponement the order of the Court of Appeal of Palermo which had recognized Bruno Contrada, former number two of the Sisde, the civil secret service, the reparation for unjust detention of 667 thousand euros.
Contrada, convicted of external complicity in mafia association, had seen the sentence annulled after the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg, which had declared the Italian verdict illegitimate.
"We are waiting to read the reasons for a more in-depth examination, - says his lawyer Stefano Giordano - but it is clear right now that the Court of Legitimacy did not execute the Strasbourg sentence, according to which Contrada was neither tried nor condemned".
"Now the ball goes back to the Palermo Court of Appeal. But, however the story will end, it is likely that the Contrada will never see a penny of what it deserves, considering its age and health conditions and length. of trial times ", concludes Giordano.
Contrada is 89 years old.
