Earlier, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, also wished Biden success.

He also highlighted the importance of relations between the two nations for Mexico.

“Do not forget that 38 million Mexicans live and work in the United States.

So today's event is very important, the arrival of a new president to the United States, ”said the Mexican president in his usual morning conference.

Shortly before the inauguration ceremony of President Biden, López Obrador released a letter that he had delivered in March 2012 to the then Vice President of the United States, in which he proposed a substantial change in the bilateral relationship so that both countries will promote a policy of cooperation for development instead of military collaboration.

"That is why we are sure that there will be no problem, because at that time we had a long conversation that dealt with these issues and he agreed, we agree," he said.

The president of Mexico also pointed out that he agrees with Biden in his approaches to managing the pandemic, economic reactivation and migration plan.

On this last issue, López Obrador has reiterated that he hopes the democrat will promote an immigration reform that allows the gradual regularization of Mexicans who live and work in the United States.

In addition, he hopes that Biden will continue with the cooperation plan for the development of the communities of southeastern Mexico and the countries of Central America that was agreed during the Donald Trump administration as a solution to migratory flows to the United States.

López Obrador said that the same approach was made to Biden in the letter he delivered eight years ago.

“There I speak that the situation of our countrymen working in the United States should be regularized.

And I also speak of the joint development plan to stop migration, offering better living and working conditions to Mexicans, "he said.
