The number of traffic offenses and other incivilities sanctioned in Paris last year fell compared to 2019 but in total,

In Paris, not everyone will have been confined in 2020: the agents of the Department of Prevention, Security and Protection of the City of Paris continued to roam the streets of the capital and distribute tickets.

The number of fines is certainly down 22% compared to 2019, but 1.3 million tickets were still distributed throughout the year.

Traffic offenses in the sights

Inconvenient parking on pedestrian crossings, bicycle locks invaded by cars, scooters rolling in bus lanes ... with 1,181,924 PV recorded in 2020, traffic violations represent 91% of violations reported by the DPSP last year.

A figure down 23% compared to 2019. "The drop in the number of these offenses was mainly observed during the first confinement", we explain to the City, which is all in all logical: it is during this period travel was the most limited last year.

On the other hand, the months of September and December 2020 greatly exceeded the 2019 figures in terms of verbalizations, reaching + 40% in December 2020.

The vast majority of these minutes concerned inconvenient parking (808,627 fines) and 277,636 traffic offenses.

Infractions on cycle lanes and bus lanes are up sharply (+ 17% and + 24.5%) compared to last year.

The multiplication of coronapists in the spring during deconfinement undoubtedly partly explains this phenomenon.

Soft pedal on incivilities

The local police that the mayor of Paris wants to put in place has not frankly verbalized much of the small daily incivilities over the year 2020. Here again, confinement requires, the outings being limited over several periods of the year, noise nuisance and other terrace overruns were less frequent.

With 115,228 PV, this represents only 9% of the total PV over the year 2020, a decrease of 6.8% compared to 2019. The top of the sanctioned incivilities come from deposits on public roads and sales deposits on the run which represent 51% of incivilities sanctioned.

The cigarette butt throws come in third position (11,551 VP).

As for infringements on displays and terraces, they are down 61% with only 4,673 PV drawn up.

The only incivility to have been further sanctioned this year: dog excrement.

Have dog handlers who may have been using their four-legged companion as an excuse to go out more often during confinement been less vigilant about collecting poop?

In any case, the number of VP increased by 13.1% with 1,459 VP distributed to dog lovers.

Health vigilance

Year of the appearance of the coronavirus requires, a new type of verbalization is added in the statistics of the DPSP: the non-compliance with the measures introduced in the context of the fight against Covid-19.

14,465 minutes were drawn up in this regard, or 12.5% of verbalizations for incivility in 2020. “The number of reports only very partially reflects the activity of mediation, prevention and control of Covid measures.

It takes an average of 1 report for 20 checks, ”says the Paris City Hall.
