The building is slowly getting too small: the Montessori school wants to expand

Günzlhofen has been the home of the private Montessori school since 2014.

And it will stay that way for the foreseeable future: Last year the school extended its lease contract until 2045.

But the building is now too small.

An extension should be here.

Günzlhofen -

"We made it very clear that we are now looking after the move: How is the school being accepted?" Says Anke Bille (59), managing director of the Montessori community in Fürstenfeldbruck.

In 2014, the school's sponsoring association did not know whether the school's move from Olching to Günzlhofen would push the number of pupils down.

After all, Günzlhofen is not as well connected in terms of traffic as Olching.

But that was by no means the case, explains Anke Bille.

The demand for a place at the school is so great that currently applicants have to be rejected.

240 students, divided between grades 1 to 10, are currently attending the Montessori school.

There they can acquire secondary school qualifications and the secondary school leaving certificate.

The catchment area currently extends from the outskirts of Munich to Friedberg.

But one would like to shrink it, says Anke Bille.

Classes should get smaller

When it became clear after the move that there would be enough children at the school, they thought about the space requirements, reports Anke Bille.

There are currently 16 classrooms in the building that once housed the Günzlhofen Middle School.

“There are some rooms that are relatively small.

It is very tight to accommodate a whole class, ”says Anke Bille.

For example, the library and lunchtime supervision are currently sharing one room.

The number of students should remain roughly the same, but the classes should be smaller.

In short: the school needs more space.

Two additional classrooms and a specialist room would be best, explains Anke Bille.

That is why the Montessori community sought a conversation with its landlord, the Günzlhofen School Association.

The communities Althegnenberg, Hattenhofen, Mittelstetten and Oberschweinbach are the owners of the school building.

And they understand the matter.

“We can understand that.

We are now pushing this ahead, ”says Norbert Riepl, Oberschweinbach's mayor and school association chairman.

In December 2020, the association assembly commissioned an architect to plan two options for an extension: one to the north of the building and one to the east.

A simple solution is not necessary due to the limited area, says Riepl.

There is also a kindergarten, sports clubs and an inn on the site.

And because of a photovoltaic system and the necessary permits, an additional floor is not an option for the time being: “The authorities would not be cheering because of this building,” said Riepl.

With more rooms, the rent increases

The decision as to where and how to build should be made this year.

However, the costs that the school association will face cannot yet be estimated.

"It wouldn't be serious to give a number," says Riepl.

Also because of possible retrofits in the old building that such an extension could bring.

In addition to the investments made by the school association, the rent for the Montessori school will of course increase with more rooms, explains Anke Bille.

There should possibly be a general meeting for this purpose.

Anyone who builds together does not come apart so quickly and they also want planning security.

Both Riepl and Bille emphasize how satisfied both parties are with each other.

"We have had an excellent collaboration since day one," said Riepl.

It is therefore logical that the parties also consolidated this affection before the big building: Last year, the lease agreement between the Montessori school and the school association was extended until 2045.

“It was never considered going away,” emphasizes Anke Bille.
