The Uffinger company Schweiger GmbH & Co. has got into turbulence.

The Weilheim district court ordered preliminary insolvency proceedings.

The tool and mold maker, which has around 70 employees, is working on a renovation concept.

Production continues unchanged.

  • The Uffinger tool and mold maker Schweiger GmbH & Co. got into trouble.

  • The Weilheim district court ordered preliminary insolvency proceedings.

  • The medium-sized company currently has almost 70 employees, 17 of whom are trainees.

Uffing

- in 2016 the world was still fine.

At that time, the Schweiger company from Uffing invested in a modern production facility - one of the most modern in the tool and mold industry in all of Europe.

The company invested 5.5 million euros in the new production hall.

70 employees, including 17 trainees

But business on Rigistraße has not been going well lately.

With the consequence that, according to a press release, Schweiger GmbH & Co. KG has filed for insolvency at the Weilheim district court “due to the current economic situation”.

The medium-sized company currently has almost 70 employees, 17 of whom are trainees.

No alternative step

“The increasingly difficult market environment in the automotive sector has been burdening the family business for some time,” the press release said.

This was already noticeable in 2019.

And then there was the corona pandemic, which is affecting the auto industry and thus also suppliers.

“There is currently no alternative to going into bankruptcy,” emphasizes company owner Anton Schweiger (46).

The company, the second largest employer in Uffing, is working on a reorganization and restructuring concept that it intends to implement itself.

“The aim is to continue to run the company and make it healthy,” says Managing Director Schweiger.

"We don't stick our heads in the sand."

Insolvency proceedings in self-administration

According to his information, the Weilheim district court followed an application by the company and ordered preliminary insolvency proceedings in self-administration with a resolution of January 18.

The company fulfilled certain requirements in this regard, and important financing creditors also gave their place.

The court will decide later on opening insolvency proceedings.

The authority appointed the Weilheim lawyer Dr.

Robert Hänel as provisional administrator.

He expects that the court will make a decision in early April at the latest.

“Insolvency proceedings are an excellent restructuring concept,” he emphasizes.

Schweiger is "properly positioned".

The question is whether the market will recover and whether enough orders will come in.

It would also be conceivable to develop other industries.

“Maybe something is happening in another market sector,” says Hänel.

Production continues

Meanwhile, production at Schweiger continues unchanged.

The order situation is currently good.

Schweiger's customers are mainly large car manufacturers.

With the tools “Made in Uffing”, they produce parts such as center consoles, glove boxes and radiator grills as standard.

But the medium-sized company also has customers in other sectors.

Still master of the house

The management is still authorized to administer and dispose of.

“We'll stay in charge of the house,” says Schweiger.

Payment of wages and salaries and other items is guaranteed.

District craftsmen keep their fingers crossed

District master craftsman Stefan Zirngibl found out about the insolvency proceedings on Thursday from the daily newspaper.

"We can only keep our fingers crossed and hope that the renovation concept works."
