Corona virus spreads through the eyes as well as the nose and mouth, as studies and medical references show, and the ophthalmologist and surgeon, Dr. Ghassan Al-Tawil, explains that the virus enters the eye with a flying spray from an infected person's sneezing or coughing, or by touching a contaminated surface and then touching the eye.

Dr. Al-Tawil explains the mechanism of transmission of the Corona virus to the eye by the fact that the last of the viruses that live in the mucous membranes of that respiratory system is a suitable place for him in addition to the conjunctiva, which is a mucous membrane that covers the front sections of the eye ball and is in direct contact with the outside air, which facilitates receiving the infection through Mists or air carrying the virus.

The eye doctor recommends the necessity to wear protective glasses in the event of presence in crowded places or hospitals and clinics and not to touch the face in general if the hands are unclean, frequent hand washing with soap and water, and not to share personal tools such as towels, for example with others.

Conjunctivitis, also known as red eyes, is one of the signs that the World Health Organization lists among the less common symptoms recorded among Corona patients, with nasal congestion, sore throat, headache and muscle pain, and some studies add other eye symptoms such as photophobia and itching.

Conjunctivitis affects about 3 to 5 percent of Corona patients, according to Dr. Al-Tawil, who indicates that it appears in the form of tears, itching and redness of the eye.

The ophthalmologist shows that conjunctivitis is not necessarily an indicator of corona infection, as it may be the result of other bacterial and viral infections, and it is diagnosed through a swab of eye secretions or if it is accompanied by respiratory symptoms such as coughing, high fever, loss of the sense of smell and taste, it may be a symptom of Corona, calling in all cases to the necessity Not to neglect it and refer to a specialist to receive appropriate treatment.
