Washington-SANA
The head of the Democratic majority in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, announced today that the indictment against former president Donald Trump will be referred Monday to the Senate, which has the authority to try him for "incitement to revolt."
And Agence France-Presse quoted Schumer as saying that he had been informed of the US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi that “the indictment will be referred to the Senate on Monday,” explaining that he discussed with the President of the Republican majority, Mitch McConnell, the schedule and the duration of the sessions.
Schumer pointed out that there will be a trial for Trump in the US Senate and a vote on whether he is guilty.
This stage, which includes reciting the terms of the impeachment measure targeting Trump in front of the senators, will mean the official start of his second trial in this context, but discussions in essence may be delayed, as no date has been set for that.
On the 13th of this month, the US House of Representatives agreed with a majority of its members to hold Trump accountable for inciting the revolt by storming Congress, in a move that would open the door to the Senate to prevent him from assuming the presidency again if convicted.
