Debts and escraches on Facebook: who was the financier they found hanged in Puerto Madero

Exequiel Mercado Zuliani was 34 years old. He led a luxurious pace of life, but according to those who knew him he was heavily in debt.

Exequiel Mercado Zuliani was 34 years old.

He was found hanged in the bathroom of his apartment in the luxurious La Porteña complex in Puerto Madero, where he lived.

There he was found by an acquaintance, with whom he had done business, and who had joined him for lunch.

The story of this young financier crosses several provinces, debts, reports of scams and escraches on social networks.

Mercado Zuliani was born in La Rioja, but

lived all his childhood and adolescence in Río Grande

, Tierra del Fuego, until at age 18 he settled in Buenos Aires to attend university.

He presented himself as a graduate in Economics at the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE).

Although some of those who knew him say that he barely studied a year.

According to his Linkedin profile, he worked at the financial Raymond James Argentina SBSA between February 2008 and September 2011 and at FA INTL Advice since October 2011. He had also created different firms linked to business together with a businessman from Buenos Aires, among them DMZ Group, in October 2015.

According to its constitution statute, that company was dedicated to "the administration on behalf of third parties of financial businesses, and especially, those related to credit titles, public or private securities, representations, collections, commissions mandates, consignments and advice" . 

Mercado Zuliani was a

financier

and promised high rates of return, over 200%.

He led a high pace of life, with trips to the United Arab Emirates, Europe, Southeast Asia, and several times a year to the United States.

In the latter country they would also have been involved in fraudulent businesses under the same pyramid scheme.

According to the testimony provided by some relatives, friends and acquaintances in his statement, and what several acquaintances told

, behind that life of luxury Mercado Zuliani was

pressed by debts

, which had him nervous and worried.

In fact, he would have had two attempts to kill himself.

In social networks, especially on Facebook,

complaints that associated Mercado Zuliani with scams

in Tierra del Fuego, La Rioja and Córdoba

went viral

, and accused him of "scourge."

And there is a WhatsApp group with 180 members who report their scams.

According to various alleged victims of Mercado Zuliani in that network, the economist convinced them to invest in shares with a bank he claimed to work for, but he had defrauded them.

You are also linked to scams by cloning credit card details.

As it transpired, the reason why he was depressed in recent weeks was that he had a significant debt with investors in the province of La Rioja.

Known his death, also, details of legal cases that involved him, precisely, for the payment claim.

In July 2016, Commercial Court No. 23 ordered an execution for more than 2.5 million pesos plus interest that a businessman claimed from Mercado Zuliani, who through his lawyer ignored that debt.

But most of Mercado Zuliani's debts, those who know him say, were not formal: he estimates that he owed a total of

about two million dollars

to different caves in the City, an environment where he moved with ease.
