Mexico, the fourth country in the world most bereaved by the coronavirus pandemic, recorded new records of deaths and contagions on Thursday, January 21, according to health authorities.
Some 1,803 new deaths are to be deplored in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 146,174 in this country of 128 million inhabitants.
Only the United States, Brazil and India have recorded more deaths from Covid.

The number of new infections between Wednesday and Thursday stood at 22,339, bringing the total to more than 1.711 million since the start of the health crisis.
The most populated areas such as the capital Mexico City and its conurbation, home to 23 million people, are the most affected.
The Mexican government launched a campaign on December 24 to vaccinate medical staff in contact with patients with Covid with doses provided by Pfizer / BioNTech.
It has also made deals with Sino-Canadian CanSinoBio for the delivery of 35 million doses, and plans to acquire 24 million Russian Sputnik V vaccines once it is authorized in the country.

Mexico is also part of the Covax device, set up by the WHO to distribute anti-Covid vaccines to underprivileged countries, which should give it access to 51.6 million additional doses.
