The popular Maisach doctor Gabriela Popescu died unexpectedly at the age of 65.

She actually wanted to help in the corona vaccination center.

Maisach

-

Gabriela Popescu

celebrated

her 65th birthday

just over a year

ago

.

There was a big party and a big surprise - a film with pictures from their lives and with cell phone videos of all those friends who couldn't be there that evening.

From Romania, Chicago and California they wished their Gaby - fit, healthy and cheerful as she always was -

many more happy years

.

Obituary: Gabriela Popescu wanted to become a doctor as a child

Nobody could have guessed that it would be her last birthday.

Gabriela Popescu

cried for joy and was deeply touched by the film.

Today he comforts the many people close to her who are stunned by her

death

.

In her large circle of friends, the

passionate doctor

had always looked after everyone - with her medical knowledge, with empathy and care at all levels.

She wanted to become a

doctor

when she was a little girl in

Romania

.

She later studied medicine in Munich, where the family had emigrated.

Gabriela Popescu worked

in medical research for

years

before she decided to become a

general practitioner

.

When she took the exam, she was 50 years old and not the only one in the family who was studying - the older of her two daughters was graduating from high school.

There

is great dismay

in the

community of Maisach

these weeks.

Here,

Gabriela Popescu

and Birgit Bartel had been running a general practice on Hauptstrasse for 15 years.

“Her job was her life,” says Birgit Bartel about her deceased colleague.

The two had known each other since studying.

Obituary: Gabriela Popescu was an old school doctor

Gabriela Popescu

was an old school doctor - one who gave patients their home number and was there for them after work.

It

was not uncommon for

Romanian compatriots from Munich to come to the

Maisach practice

.

The doctor also worked two days a week in the

official investigation center of

the government of Upper Bavaria.

Gabriela Popescu could

have retired at the

age of 65

, but the thought was far from her.

“She just really enjoyed her work,” say the daughters Stephanie and Saskia.

Her mother even planned to register for service at one of the

Covid-19 vaccination centers

.

Despite the

high level of professional commitment, she

always made

time for her girls

.

The two remember many joint ventures, trips and vacations.

In addition to the beautiful childhood, they give their mother great credit for not pushing them in any professional direction, but rather giving them time and space to find their own ways - and supporting them as much as possible.

Obituary: Gabriela Popescu's death came as a surprise

A few years ago, the three of them took an emotional journey into the past in

Gabriela Popescu's Romanian home village

.

After decades she saw the house where she was born again, met former schoolmates and even former teachers on the street.

The whole village welcomed their mother, the daughters report.

"And we have

found

a

piece of home

there too

."

In her free time, the cheerful doctor rarely rested.

She preferred to go

mountain hikes

with her partner

or take long walks - the main thing is that she was outside in

nature

.

Why the active woman, who did not suffer from any ailments, was suddenly torn from life is incomprehensible to everyone who knew her.

Gabriela Popescu

died shortly before her 66th birthday.
