Roland Lescure: "European solidarity must prevail"

2021-01-22T18:43:40.180Z

VIDEO INTERVIEW - LREM deputy for the French in North America is delighted that the EU is moving forward united in the face of this crisis, even if each country retains its particularities.

European Union nationals will now have to present a negative test to be able to enter France.

Those who are outside the EU will also have to undergo a period of isolation.

But why did you wait so long to take this measure?

"Mobility within Schengen is important",

recalled Roland Lescure on the set of "Talk Le Figaro" on Friday.

There are

"new variants which are circulating very strongly, therefore, with a virus which circulates faster and stronger, new measures must be taken",

explains the spokesperson for the majority.

He recalls that fairly strict measures had already been taken for countries where the virus circulated a lot, in particular the United States, where a test of less than 72 hours has been requested since last July in order to be able to take the plane.

Ditto for the United Kingdom where, at the end of December, when the virus exploded,

“we temporarily closed our borders.

They are now reopened under the condition of a PCR test ”.

To face this virus,

"we must adapt"

, insists the deputy of the French of North America.

"There, the virus is circulating more in the EU, especially in our border countries, so we are taking new measures, there is nothing abnormal about that", he

abounds a bit annoyed by the controversies in repetition.

To put in place measures,

"it is necessary at least that the two border countries agree," he

underlines again, adding that neither border workers nor road carriers will be affected by these new measures.

Did other countries anticipate more?

It depends on the country, and it depends on the circulation of the virus in the countries concerned.

The sinews of war being, according to him, to remain extremely

"mobile"

to face this virus which itself

"changes direction almost every day".

Should the EU then take more responsibility for managing the pandemic?

This competence must remain national but there is

a

need for

"enhanced coordination"

within the EU, he assures us.

"To extinguish the fire"

The idea being to agree between countries as is the case then twelve months.

"We agreed on the purchase of vaccines and on the recovery plan with 750 billion euros which will be financed on long-term European debt".

"What we are doing is unique and historic,"

says the Walker.

European solidarity must prevail. ”

A convinced European, he is delighted that the EU is moving forward united in the face of this crisis, even if each country retains its particularities and its own health system which remains a national competence.

"Overall, it is together that we will get out,"

says the elected.

2021 may be a complicated year also on the economic side.

The aid

"will last as long as necessary",

reassures the spokesperson.

"We do not reduce the wing on the sectors that need it"

such as seasonal workers, ski resorts, restaurants, tourism, culture, etc.

"We are really in the" whatever it costs "and this, as long as we need it",

promises the deputy.

On the other hand, as soon as the resumption of certain sectors can be accompanied,

“the infusion is withdrawn so that the patient can resume walking.

Overall, for Roland Lescure, there is no urgency, the main thing being to get the French economy out of the rut in which it is plunged.

"We are doing everything we need to rebuild the house, even if the fire is not completely stopped."

The paradox, he concludes,

"is that we must both continue to put out the fire in certain sectors and rebuild in others which can be projected into the future".
