The Lebanese Presidency confirmed today that President General Michel Aoun has nothing to do with the reasons for the delay in forming the new government.
The Media Office of the Lebanese Republican Palace said in a statement today: There has been a proliferation of recent analyzes and articles dealing with the position of the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, regarding the issue of forming the government headed by Saad Hariri, with the intention of distorting and suggesting that President Aoun is the one who puts obstacles in the formation process.
The statement indicated that the President of the Republic did not ask for the blocking third in the new government formation, and the head of the "Strong Lebanon Bloc", Representative Gebran Bassil, did not engage in the formation process at all, as some claim.
The statement stressed that Hezbollah does not interfere in any decision of the President of the Republic, including the formation of the government.
With regard to choosing ministers, naming them and distributing them to ministerial portfolios, the statement clarified that this matter is not the exclusive right of the prime minister, based on the Lebanese constitution, which indicates that President Aoun has the constitutional right to agree to the complete cabinet formation before signing.
The statement emphasized that Baabda Palace is still waiting for the Prime Minister-designate to come to it with a government proposal that takes into account the standards of fair representation in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, while circumstances call for the acceleration of the formation of the government.
