Alberto Fernández receives first dose of Sputnik V vaccine

The president of Argentina Alberto Fernández received the first dose of the Russian vaccine against covid-19, Sputnik V, the Presidency reported on Thursday in a statement.

"The national president reaffirmed the safety and efficacy of the vaccine and reiterated that his priority is that it reaches the majority of Argentines in the shortest time possible," they said.

Fernández received the dose at the Posadas Hospital in the province of Buenos Aires and it was applied by a nursing graduate.

The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Technology of Argentina (ANMAT) reported this Wednesday that it recommended to the Ministry of Health the use of the Russian vaccine for people over 60 years of age.

Fernández is 61.

Medical exhaustion after first wave worries in Argentina

Some health workers in Argentina begin to speak of a second wave of the pandemic and warn of the exhaustion of doctors from the effort to save lives in the first wave.

The occupancy of intensive care beds did not vary much between December and January due to the fact that there were more infections among young people, which although it did not demand too much from hospitals, it did increase the circulation of the virus.
