(CNN) -
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer wants the impeachment of former President Donald Trump to begin the week of Feb.8, a source familiar with the matter said.
“We all want to leave this terrible chapter in the history of our nation behind.
But healing and unity will only come if there is truth and responsibility, and that is what this judgment will provide, "said Schumer.
According to a source familiar with the program, this will look like this:
Monday, January 25: House prosecutors will read impeachment charge
Tuesday, January 26: Senators will take office
Tuesday, February 2: This is the deadline for the President to respond to the charge and for the House to conduct a preliminary report.
Schumer said Friday that during this period, the Senate will continue to do other business, such as confirming President Biden's cabinet choices and negotiating a COVID-19 relief package.
