The extension of the Germering fire brigade's tool shed on Augsburger Strasse has finally been started.

It costs around 5.5 million euros.

Germering

- More than four years ago, the Germering volunteer fire brigade announced the need for expansion.

These were the reasons: The vehicle hall has become too small for the fleet.

There is no possibility to store private and operational clothing separately.

The workshop is also too small and is also used as a storage room, which is otherwise missing.

In addition, a lot of equipment must be housed in the basement of the apartments in the house.

The city council therefore decided in 2019 to buy a plot of land east of the existing house to expand.

In the previous year, the architectural office Sütfels was commissioned with the planning.

The first plans were presented last December.

Now the city council has approved the entire project at a cost of around 5.5 million euros.

According to the plans, the tool shed will be extended to the east and a transverse building will be added.

The extension of the house creates four additional parking spaces for four vehicles.

The subsequent transverse structure offers space for another three vehicles.

A respiratory protection workshop, a workshop and a warehouse are also housed here.

Two apartments for members of the fire brigade are being built on the roof of the extended vehicle hall.

The city council approved this option, although it makes the expansion around 335,000 euros more expensive.

However, after a suggestion from the citizens' assembly, which was supported by the SPD, it should still be checked whether an elevator could be installed.

The city must be a role model in terms of accessibility, said Christian Gruber (SPD).

According to the architect, this would cost between 50,000 and 100,000 euros.

The installation of a photovoltaic system on the roof of the old building is also optional.

It is only intended for personal use, explained Heike Thorwächter from the building authority.

Because of the limited space, no larger system can be placed on the roof.

Feeding electricity into the grid is therefore not profitable.

The system costs 36,000 euros and has amortized itself after nine years.
