In the Corona year 2020, the mobile home industry experienced a boom.

But that also exacerbates the problem of a lack of parking space for the vehicle.

In Bruck, campers discover new locations.

Fürstenfeldbruck

- In normal years, the parking lot at the Bruck train station is quite busy on weekdays.

This is different at the moment.

Apparently, far fewer commuters park their cars here to take the S-Bahn to work.

However, the paid parking lot is not completely empty.

Word has got around among home owners that there is currently enough space available for their large companions.

“A cost-effective solution,” explains the owner of one of the vehicles.

"Much cheaper than on a farm", where the mobile apartments can alternatively spend the winter and often have to shell out three-digit amounts per month.

At the Bruck train station, the mobile homes and caravans are under a protective roof.

You only pay 15 euros per month for a parking ticket.

You can take it from the machine or buy it digitally.

It is also not much more expensive at Franz Jais.

The Estinger rents out parking spaces on his property at the Gernlindner driveway to the air base.

He charges 20 euros per month.

But its 250 places are fully booked.

The demand for suitable parking spaces exceeds the supply.

The space for the large vehicles is limited in the street area.

In addition, not all vehicles may be parked there indefinitely.

A non-motorized caravan can only stand in the same place for 14 days with impunity.

Then he has to be transferred.

But also the owners of mobile homes - if they are registered, can be parked on the street indefinitely - appreciate the parking lot at the train station.

His caravan is not entirely safe from collisions or willful destruction at night, even at the train station parking lot, says one of the vehicle owners.

The area is checked regularly, but not guarded around the clock.

Nevertheless, it is "far safer" here, away from the road.

The station car park will not become a campsite.

The following applies to mobile homes in Germany: You can sleep in the car where it is not expressly prohibited and marked with signs, but not longer than one night in the same place.

Such a "travel break" officially serves to "restore fitness to drive".

In plain language: to sleep in or to sober up after a sociable evening.

From time to time this option is used at the train station.

Occasionally for more than one night, report caravan owners who come over more often to check on their vehicles.

Not only in summer, but also now in the cold season, a few people would have “set up comfortably” in their camper for a long time, stayed a few days, then moved on along the railway line to the next P&R place and then after a few weeks back there.

For the parking lot operator, the 15 to 20 parked mobile homes compensate at least part of the loss of income due to a lack of commuters.

The area with its 387 parking spaces has been in the portfolio of the Conti parking garage company since 2013.

There is no fear that the permanently parked motorhomes would restrict the P&R offer for commuters and their cars, the Berlin company informed our newspaper at the request of our newspaper.

Deutsche Bahn, as the property owner, does not currently see any usage conflict between mobile home owners and commuters.

It remains to be seen whether it will stay that way when they are back from home office.
