The corona pandemic is life-threatening, especially in old people's and nursing homes.

Again and again there are cases where a vaccination of high-risk patients was carried out too late.

Miesbach / Starnberg

- Although a large number of seniors have already been

vaccinated

against

Corona

in the

Bavarian nursing homes

, there are still major outbreaks in some facilities.

In a senior citizens' residence in the Miesbach district, 41 people tested positive for the virus, 34 of them were vaccinated.

Seven of the vaccinated residents and one other unvaccinated senior have died with

Covid-19

.

There has also been a major corona outbreak in a second home in the same district since the beginning of the year - the residents were also vaccinated there beforehand.

Corona in Bavaria: Symptoms only appear a few days after being infected with Sars-CoV-2

When the seniors received the

corona vaccination *

, they were already infected, explains the district office.

But that became known only afterwards.

The incubation period, i.e. the time between

infection and the appearance of the first symptoms

, is between two and 14 days.

"The full vaccination protection only unfolds seven days after the second vaccination," explains the district office.

The staff of the mobile vaccination teams are tested daily - so far without positive results.

In addition, the teams only enter the facilities in

full-body protective gear

.

The district office emphasizes that it is very unlikely that they carried the virus into the homes.

There have also been larger outbreaks in other homes in Bavaria since the vaccinations began.

In

the Starnberg district

, 41 people were infected in a facility, 18 of them

died with Covid-19

.

Alexandra Schöneberger-Lindl is responsible for the home as a pandemic doctor.

Even as a doctor, she cannot explain a lot.

“There were seriously ill people who recovered from the ashes like a phoenix,” she reports.

And there were residents who made a solid impression on their visits.

"And 15 minutes later they were dead in bed," she says.

There are similar cases in other homes:

Corona risk in homes: old people and people with dementia make prevention difficult

It is suspected that the

virus was introduced there by a resident

who was previously in the hospital and was probably infected there.

The doctor explains that it is difficult to prevent the virus from spreading in the home.

Many very old and demented people live in the facility.

They are mentally confused and accidentally lie down in someone else's bed.

In Brannenburg in the Rosenheim district, as many as 19 out of 20 residents were infected in a retirement home, but most residents there have cope with the disease relatively well so far.

It is particularly bitter that the vaccination scheduled for last Sunday in the home had to be canceled - the vaccine was missing.

The number of new corona infections is falling slightly - but the number of deaths remains high.

There are great differences in the infection process.
