Israel began vaccinating adolescents against the novel coronavirus on Saturday (January 23) as part of its nationwide campaign which has already covered a quarter of Israel's population, health officials said.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign on December 20, some 2.5 million people, out of a population of nine million, have already received a first dose of vaccine, of which 900,000 the second needed to be immunized against the virus, after the Ministry of Health on Friday January 22.
This new stage of the campaign comes as the country experiences a third strict national lockdown since the end of December. The government decided on Tuesday January 19 to extend this confinement until the end of January, after having recorded in 24 hours a little more than 10,000 cases of contamination, a daily record.
