From stockings to submarines: that's what the new Geretsrieder issue is all about

The working group Historisches Geretsried has published a new special issue in the series of "Geretsrieder Hefte".

Stockings and a submarine play an important role in this.

Geretsried

- In the 1960s, it was possible to buy a motorboat from Quelle-Versand.

It was developed by Otto Heinrich Graf von Hagenburg.

The founder of Hagenburg-Fieberglas KG manufactured much more in the south of Geretsried from the new material GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic, mostly polyester).

The assortment ranged from fishing rods and railway barriers to a submarine with an electric motor.

Hagenburg-Fieberglas KG is one of the 43 companies whose stories were compiled by the Working Group Historisches Geretsried (AHG) last year for the “Historical Industry and Trade Show” in the former art bunker.

This resulted in special edition 4 “Company Stories” in the “Geretsrieder Hefte” series, which the AHG recently published.

"When we were collecting the exhibits, the idea arose to publish a 'Geretsrieder Heft' on the subject," says Werner Sebb from the AHG, who played a key role in organizing the exhibition.

This took place on the occasion of the double anniversary of 50 years of the city and 70 years of the community.

The AHG counted 746 visitors within the opening time of six weeks.

Anyone who missed the exhibition or would like to read the company history again has the opportunity to do so.

It was also important to Sebb to “keep this in writing for future generations,” he explains.

For him, the companies that came into being after the end of the war are an essential part of the city's history.

"Without them, Geretsried wouldn't exist in this form today." It is more or less a coincidence that there are exactly 43 company stories that the AHG has presented in the exhibition and magazine.

“There would have been quite a few more,” says Sebb.

But there was no space in the former art bunker for more posters.

In addition, he only knows some companies from hearsay and there is no information available.

The research was "extensive and nerve-wracking," said the 81-year-old.

A large number of the companies presented no longer exist, such as H. Schaller KG, which manufactured petticoats in stone, among other things, or Aristo Dennert & Pape, which manufactured slide rules and drawing implements on Blumenstrasse until 1978.

Information was provided by descendants, among others, or the AHG was able to fall back on the already published booklet "Industrial Pioneers".

Most of the texts were written by Werner Sebb and Hannelore Schunk, daughter of the first Mayor of Geretsried, Karl Lederer, who helped prepare the exhibition.

“She also has many personal memories of the time,” says Sebb.

Some of the company histories were also written by the lenders of the exhibits for the historical industrial and trade show.

For example, Margit Weißbach wrote about the Otto Weißbach stocking factory, Dr.

Otto Rothe on Rudolf Chemie and Dr.

Heiko Böhme on the chemical factory Dr.

Th. Böhme.

The company stories could be read on posters in the exhibition.

The texts were transferred to the magazine unchanged.

They are short and informative.

There is a double page for each company with historical recordings as well as photos of some of the exhibits that were shown in the exhibition.

Gerhard Aumüller created the layout.

On the enclosed city map you can see where the companies were or are located.

A compilation of a film made in 1960 about the industry at the time and produced by Gerhard Aumüller for the exhibition is also available on DVD.

The AHG usually presents new publications in the “Geretsrieder Hefte” series as part of a lecture.

This is currently not possible due to the corona pandemic.

Therefore, the chronicle of the hamlet of Geretsried up to the start of the armaments industry, which Walter Holzer published as a special issue last summer, has not yet been officially presented.

Nevertheless, it is recommended to those interested in history.
