Legendary American presenter Larry King has died

He was 87 years old and since the beginning of the month he was hospitalized for coronavirus in Los Angeles.

American television host Larry King, instrumental in understanding today's talk-show throughout more than 60 years of professional career, died this Saturday

at the age

87

at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Angels

King was hospitalized earlier this month for coronavirus, according to

CNN

, and had suffered from various medical problems for years, including severe heart attacks and type 2 diabetes, as well as lung cancer in 2017, of which he recovered after undergoing surgery.

"With deep sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at the age of 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles," begins the statement on his Twitter account where they confirmed his demise.

They added: "For 63 years on radio, television and digital media, Larry's thousands of interviewees are a testament to his unique and undying talent as an interviewer."

His talk shows on

, "Larry King Live", in which he served as host for

a quarter of a century

, as well as the rest of his appearances, "are a constant reference from the rest of the media and are part of the historical archive late twentieth century and early twenty-first ".

He left

CNN

in 2010 and continued doing interviews broadcast on its website.

In 2012 he launched the show “Larry King Now” on Ora TV, a video on demand channel that he co-founded.

Throughout his life, King received more than a dozen awards from the media, including two Peabody Awards for excellence in broadcasting in 1982 and 1992, as well as an Emmy Award and 10 CableACE Awards for Best Interviewer, as well as the best talk show series.

The journalist was born in Brooklyn in 1933 and was linked to the media for six decades.

He retired from TV in 2010, having recorded more than six thousand broadcasts.
