Thomas Pardeller (CSU) has been the new mayor of Neubiberg for almost a year and has been faced with the task of leading the community through the corona crisis since the beginning of his term of office.

In an interview, the town hall chief reports how this works and which projects are pending this year.

Mr. Pardeller, which topics and projects do you have priority this year?

That is digitization.

We want fast internet everywhere in Neubiberg.

To this end, we will present a broadband expansion master plan.

The change in the world of work with the increasing number of home offices calls for high-speed internet across the board.

We also want to digitize and modernize the administration and structures in our town hall.

The motto is more services online, more convenience for citizens and less paper and thus more environmental protection.

Climate protection has long been a priority for the community.

We want to launch a new funding program in 2021 that will cover all areas from energy to mobility to the environment.

We have set ourselves the goal of becoming climate-neutral as a municipal administration by 2030.

Neubiberg recently became a member of the municipal energy-efficient network.

As a group, we want to benefit from the exchange with other municipalities.

The compatibility of family and work remains one of the major challenges in childcare.

Therefore, the expansion of all-day care at the primary school should continue.

We will employ additional educational staff in order to further improve the quality and to be able to offer extended care times.

Where specifically is the municipality planning major construction projects?

How far should the community center project have progressed in the coming months?

In the last few years, construction sites have literally emerged.

The communal properties urgently need renovation.

This is particularly true of our communal apartments, which are largely outdated not only in terms of energy, but also technically.

There are also fire protection deficiencies in the sports center and senior center that need to be rectified quickly.

Fortunately, part of the community center project will soon be finished, our house for further education.

In 2021 it will be available primarily for events, clubs, adult education centers and music schools.

The library also opens in new splendor and with modern equipment.

We are making good progress with the expansion of the town hall.

The project is becoming more modern, cheaper and more sustainable.

We are currently examining a pure wood construction for the extension.

We want to be finished with the draft planning by the end of 2021.

What problems and challenges will the church face in the coming year?

The pandemic has massive effects on the economy and thus indirectly on the community finances.

How the business tax will behave in 2021 cannot be foreseen yet, so it is important to budget carefully and prudently.

In principle, however, we have to define good framework conditions for our companies, retailers and restaurateurs and support the economy, because ultimately the community coffers and the general public also benefit from this.

How do you see Neubiberg currently prepared to cope with the pandemic?

We reacted quickly and unbureaucratically in late summer in order to be as well prepared as possible for the second wave.

On the one hand, we have set up a municipal test center on Rathausplatz, the MVZ St. Cosmas.

Neubiberger can be tested there over the winter months.

On the other hand, we have equipped our two primary schools with room air filters and partition walls, thus ensuring that the risk of infection in the classroom is practically zero.

In addition, we guarantee smooth lessons without freezing children.

We bought tablets for distance teaching.

CO2 traffic lights are installed in the daycare centers, thereby improving the air quality.

I think we have done a lot to ensure health protection.

Everyone longs for the end of the pandemic.

How optimistic are you that celebrations can be held again in the coming year?

I very much hope that normality will return in the spring and that we will regain our familiar and dearly-loved life from "pre-Corona times".

We will all have even more desire for cultural events, festivals and celebrations.

Neubiberg certainly has a lot to offer.

The fire brigade will duly celebrate its 100th anniversary - I am particularly looking forward to it.

Highlights in the Neubiberger event calendar are the street festival and the solstice fire.

For the first time, yard and garage flea markets are planned in 2021 as a replacement for the June market.
