The (SOS Mediterranean) organization announced that the rescue ship (Ocean Viking) rescued a hundred and six new people in the Mediterranean Sea off the Libyan coast, bringing the number of people who were rescued during the past 48 hours to more than 350 people.
Agence France-Presse quoted the organization as saying in a statement today that the ship picked up 119 people yesterday morning, during its first rescue operation since its return to the sea, including 58 minors in addition to four children, including a one-month-old child from a boat. It also recovered 165 others, the majority. Most of them are minors and unaccompanied by one of their relatives.
The Mediterranean is witnessing continuous attempts by hundreds of illegal immigrants to reach Europe via Italy, Spain and elsewhere, where more than 1,200 migrants were killed in 2020 at sea.
