Syrian calligraphers in a virtual conference on the arts of Arabic calligraphy in Iran

The Syrian participation in the first virtual conference of the countries of the Silk Road in the arts of Arabic calligraphy and the accompanying exhibition in Iran was characterized by the evocation of the works of the pioneers of the Levantine school in calligraphy, who had the credit for this art all over the world.

Regarding this participation organized by the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts Association in cooperation with the Iranian Cultural Chancellor in Damascus, the calligrapher and plastic artist Reem Qubtan, head of the association, spoke in a statement to SANA Cultural that it represented 20 works by seven of the pioneers of the Levantine School in Arabic calligraphy: Badawi Al-Dirani, Mamdouh Al-Sharif, Zuhair Zarzour and Muhammad Salem Noelati, Ahmed Al-Bari, Mahmoud Al-Hawari and Youssef Rasa, along with six of the professors of calligraphers in this field, they are Ahmad Al-Mufti, Adnan Al-Sheikh Othman, Anwar Al-Halawani, Adham Fadi Al-Jaafari, Asim Al-Rhebban and Captain.

Qubtan explained that the term Damascus school is not specific to the city of Damascus only, but rather reflects the Syrian school in Arabic calligraphy.

The Syrian participation in the conference, according to Captain, also included presenting a research paper entitled Ornamentation, gilding, and poetry and its importance in beautifying and decorating manuscripts and books, especially the Noble Qur’an, describing this participation as the first of the foreign participation that the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts Association seeks in order to show the importance, beauty and distinction of the Levantine School in the arts of calligraphy and opening horizons New to Syrian calligraphers by examining other countries' experiences in this field and creating productive, civilized dialogues that express our heritage, civilization and cultural identity.

It is worth noting that this conference and the accompanying exhibition opened last Wednesday in the Khorasan Museum in the Iranian city of Mashhad and continues until next Monday and aims to display the sayings of prominent figures and messengers of goodness, friendship and communication between the world's writers to confront the thought of war in the human mind, and more than 230 works from about 30 Arab and foreign countries participate in it. .
