Montpellier in turmoil: Altrad speaks of "a curse"

2021-01-24T18:10:29.770Z

The president of the MHR, only 13th of the Top 14 and unable to win since the beginning of December, returned to RMC Sport on the catastrophic situation of his club.

On the occasion of the 19th day of the Top 14, the MHR conceded a sixth consecutive defeat - the fourth since the arrival of Philippe Saint-André to replace Xavier Garbajosa - against Lyon (16-21).

The MHR “shone” by its offensive ineffectiveness (only three penalties registered), before saving the honor by Dervergie at the end of the match.

It is also the fifth loss at home for the Hérault this season.

Montpellier has not won since December 4 and a trip to Clermont (21-15).

Faced with this crisis situation (13th in the Top 14, after 11 defeats in 14 matches), the Hérault president Mohed Altrad confided in our colleagues from

RMC Sport

on the situation of the MHR.

“If you want to know if I'm going to let go of the club, no.

We have problems but the players and staff are working hard.

It's a curse, he believes.

In the last five or six games, we've lost a few points.

This was again the case on Saturday.

We are not very far but that does not smile on us.

You are going to tell me that we are second to last, I grant you.

We are full of humility.

We are facing a difficult situation. ”

The businessman adds that he “knows that no one is going to help you to get us up, even the referees.

In life, when you are weak like us today since we cannot win, we will not help you, but we will help the strong.

I am attached to the club, the players too ”.

“I get calls from all over the world from very high level people.

Cheika is one of them.

Jake White is another, as are Rassie (Erasmus) and Stuart Lancaster ”

The Hérault leader also mentioned the succession of his coach Philippe Saint-André, who succeeded Xavier Garbajosa, but who will resume his duties as director of rugby at the end of the season.

“I get calls from all over the world from very high level people,” smiles Mohed Altrad.

Cheika is one of them.

Jake White (already at the helm of the MHR between 2014 and 2017, Editor's note) is another, as are Rassie (Erasmus) and Stuart Lancaster.

The job interests a lot of people.

They contacted us directly or indirectly, but there are others.

For the moment, we are watching and Philippe will end the season. ”

Regarding the extension of the contracts of some players, including Louis Picamoles recently removed from the group, he continues: “Put yourself in my place, you will obviously extend a player if it is the one you need for the club.

But if you have any doubts, you ask yourself questions.

We tell all these players at the end of their contract, including Picamoles, that they have to show us something… ”
