The chief medical advisor to the French government, Francois Delphresi, warned today that the spread of new types of the emerging corona virus may push the country into a third lockdown.
"If we do not tighten the regulations, we will find ourselves in a very difficult situation since mid-March, and we may need to close again," Delphresi said on BFM television.
Delphresi added that this week will be decisive and that the politicians have to decide, indicating that it would be logical to make the new closure coincide with the upcoming school holidays in February, and to extend the vacations for at least a week.
Yesterday, the French Ministry of Education announced that the number of closed schools due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus has tripled in just seven days, after health authorities recorded 230 deaths and 23,924 new cases of corona during the past twenty-four hours.
France is the sixth country in the world in terms of the number of recorded infections with the virus and the seventh in terms of the death toll from the pandemic.
