The battle for the opening of ultra-Orthodox educational institutions:

The Israeli police forces arrived this morning (Sunday) at the Grodno institution in the city of Ashdod in order to prevent the studies from taking place there, contrary to the instructions.

This is after enforcement was carried out against the institution over the past week, and its managers refused to cease its activities.

There was a crowd and calls against the police, as well as attempts by some of the crowd to enter the institution by force.

One person was detained for questioning.

Over the weekend it was reported that Rabbi Yisrael Hagar, the Rebbe of Viznitz, one of the most prominent Hasidic sects, ordered during Shabbat to open the educational institutions. “Anyone who has a problem should contact me.

"From tomorrow I do not want to hear from any educational institution that it is closed," the Rebbe told his followers and ordered that his remarks be published in the "HaModi'a" newspaper.

He said, "I am instructing to open all of Viznitz's Talmudic Torah in an open manner." If policemen come - let the hydermasters direct them to me, "the Rebbe added.

"Not to get into a fight with them, not to shout 'Nazi' and not to provoke, but to say clearly - there is a landlord on 4 Torat Chaim Street (in Bnei Brak) and his name is Israel Hagar."

The order to open the educational institutions comes against the background of enormous anger on the part of the ultra-Orthodox about what happened on the night between Thursday and Friday in Bnei Brak, when police forces were operating extensively in the city.

According to the residents, stun grenades were used excessively, and a video of police beating ultra-Orthodox people with batons was even published.

On the other hand, the police claimed that "the police dealt with a series of serious and violent riots by a number of lawbreakers, who brutally attacked and restrained the police forces and injured seven policemen on duty."

Meanwhile, last night it was reported in "Israel Today" that Rabbi Kanievsky's entourage is also considering ordering the opening of all educational institutions in the ultra-Orthodox-Lithuanian world in the near future, in light of heavy pressure from institutional directors.

It should be noted that already at the beginning of the closure, Rabbi Kanievsky's entourage expressed discomfort with the statement that the institutions would be closed in a sweeping manner, but the decision in the end was to order an official closure.

In the last two weeks, various parties have been trying to put pressure on the institutions to open, but no decision has been made at this time.

In recent days, directors of institutions have come to the home of the greatest of the ultra-Orthodox generation, and have accepted that the closure is ongoing and in the meantime the children's studies are disabled.

In some cases, the rabbi allowed the institutions to open, but not yet in a sweeping manner.

"The rabbi heard the principals' words seriously and believes that the story of education is acute and that it is time to open the institutions," a source close to Rabbi Kanievsky told Israel Today.

"Enough is enough. They told the rabbi a few days, then a few more days, and there have been no studies for more than two weeks. The ultra-Orthodox public cannot give up Talmud Torah for so long."
