The Dutch police today quelled several demonstrations in several cities in protest against the government's policies related to the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, using tear gas to disperse the demonstrators and arrested dozens of them.
In the southern city of Eindhoven, where hundreds of people demonstrated against the curfew imposed by the government yesterday, the police used tear gas canisters and arrested at least 30 people, according to their confirmation.
In the capital, Amsterdam, "NOS" public television reported that "the police deployed trained dogs in the Museumplein in the city center, where hundreds of people demonstrated."
As a result, looting took place in several Dutch cities during the demonstrations, while a number of demonstrators set fire to cars and looted shops at Eindhoven Central Station for trains and railways, according to the local TV channel, "Omrop Brabant".
In turn, the Dutch railway company asked travelers to avoid Eindhoven Central Station, as trains stopped due to the intervention of ambulance teams in their vicinity, and a new Corona examination center in the town of Urk, in the north of the Netherlands, was also set on fire with the curfew coming into effect.
The curfew is angering part of the population in the Netherlands and faces opposition from some MPs, including right-wing leader Geert Wilders.
Last Wednesday, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutke announced that the decision to impose a curfew was taken with the spread of the British version of the mutated version of the emerging corona virus in an attempt to control the epidemic.
