Financial deficit of over a million: childcare in Weßling is becoming more expensive

Because the “adjusted deficit” of the day care center is over one million euros, the municipality of Weßling has to act.

It saves - but also increases the fees.

Weßling - Around 1.05 million euros: According to calculations by Weßling's treasurer Sebastian Görlitz, the “adjusted deficit” of the daycare center is.

This recurring deficit should be reduced, the local council decided this week.

Through savings, but also through fee increases.

With the latter, the committee clearly found it difficult.

While Christian Zollner (FFW) felt the estimated five percent increase for crèche children was too low, Sebastian Grünwald (Greens) pleaded for a lower increase.

The deputy mayor cemented this demand with his own calculations regarding the minus of childcare.

The deficit in the nursery is only an outlier in the pandemic year, he concluded.

In addition, given the high crèche fees for individuals, five percent is a lot of money.

“A daycare place costs about five times more than a kindergarten place,” confirmed Görlitz.

And yes: 2020 was an exceptional year because the community waived the fees for all parents whose offspring were not cared for due to corona.

Parents present become increasingly angry as the debate progresses

“The deficit was not that high in previous years,” agreed the treasurer of the criticism in an interview with Starnberg Mercury.

Nonetheless, the congregation had already written in the red.

"The last increase was in 2016," he reminded the council and the parents in the parish celibate, some of whom became increasingly angry in the course of the debate.

The community in the crèche has more staff than required per child, Görlitz explained the high running costs.

The deficit in childcare does not include the renovation work and the two construction trailers that cost around 500,000 euros last year.

Fee increase by five to 30 percent - depending on the institution

The remedy for the annual loss is to be remedied by the fee increases of five percent in the crèche, 20 percent in the kindergarten, 30 percent in the forest kindergarten and 15 percent in the after-school care center or in the midday care, which is largely accepted by the municipal council.

In addition, there is an increase in food, play and catering money.

The councils approved the adjusted sibling fees as well as the annual pay increases in the public service that are automatically passed on to the parents.

The additional income is only one of two levers, said Mayor Michael Sturm.

In view of the proportionately high personnel costs, the municipal council had already adopted a postponement of the opening times and a minimum number of registrations for off-peak times at the end of last year.

"With the two measures we are reducing the deficit by up to 100,000 euros," said Görlitz.

Further savings proposals are currently being worked out.

With its approved application, the CSU came from a different direction: Because all but one of the children's facilities are run by the municipality, they wanted an examination of the framework conditions and costs in the case of an external provider.
