Lynching of Yuriy: "Many aggressors only know the law of the strongest"

INTERVIEW - Child psychiatrist, Dr Maurice Berger is a specialist in violence among young people. He pleads for a strengthening of criminal measures in the face of physical attacks.

LE FIGARO.

- In the images of Yuriy's beating, the attackers at no time seem to show any consideration for the fate of their victim.

As a child psychiatrist, how do you explain such violence?

Maurice BERGER.

- It is about a premeditated aggression committed with an “orgiastic” pleasure.

Many perpetrators of this kind of act have usually been subjected as a child to extreme violence from their father or older brother, directly on them or on their mother.

This violence becomes almost constitutive of their personality.

At the same time, the father is incriminable in thought and even less in truth, and the violence of the family group is then expressed against an external group.

Such perpetrators have no empathy for their victim, because they have received none from those around them.

Considering them as victims does not help them, because they do not feel that way, but they benefit from it and are comforted in the project.
