The center of Grünwalder is a highly sensitive area.

There has now been heated discussion in the local council about opening the road in both directions to cyclists.

But parking would have to give way.

Grünwald

- Please concentrate on Rathausstrasse: Stephan Weidenbach (CSU) warned at the end to only deal with the actual agenda item: This was entitled "Further development of traffic calming and cycle path concepts", originally requested by the FDP.

In terms of content, it was about the opening of Rathausstrasse for cyclists in both directions: the administration and the police consider this questionable.

According to the administration, it is basically possible to set up a bicycle street in Rathausstrasse.

But it is currently too narrow.

A lane width of 3.50 meters would have to be kept free for an opening.

A total of 5.5 meters is available here, so a 1.25 meter strip would have to be created.

The only option would be for the parking spaces to be eliminated to enable two-way bicycle traffic.

Not a good idea for the administration.

Risk potential too high: the police are critical of opening up to cyclists

The Grünwald police also consider an opening to be problematic.

There is a high potential risk of accidents, especially when driving to the market square on Südliche Münchner Straße or Emil-Geis-Straße.

The situation is also critical at the other end, Dr.-Max-Straße.

When turning into Rathausstrasse, a separate area should be offered.

After all, a number of traffic accidents have occurred in a clearer situation in recent years.

Even now, drivers should be careful on the route.

Green councilor angry

Ingrid Reinhart (Greens) was annoyed: As she read the invitation with the agenda, she thought of further developing the cycle path concept.

The content was then no longer mentioned.

The administration only dealt selectively with Rathausstrasse.

But Reinhart-Maier considers this to be a pure blockade policy.

Instead of an overall view with the concept and public participation, only a small fragment is picked out.

She once again recalled a municipal council resolution from December 2019, in which the redesign of the town center (Marktplatz, Rathausstrasse and Luitpoldweg) should be examined.

Offers for planning proposals should be obtained.

Nothing at all happened for a year.

And now that. Your vision is to have a green town center that is pleasant for pedestrians and cyclists.

Parking spaces could also be eliminated.

Cyclists and pedestrians also have rights.

She wanted to postpone the issue because the point was not quorate in its current form.

However, she was unsuccessful.

PBG municipal council: cyclists do not adhere to the one-way rule

Tobias Brauner (PBG) argued that a bicycle street should not be written off.

In the Glockenbachviertel there are paths in streets that are at least as narrow as Rathausstrasse in Grünwald.

He added ironically: "I'll copy the concerns of the administration, and if I rivet one as a driver, I tell Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter that he shouldn't have made the street like this." Brauner considers Rathausstrasse to be relatively harmless.

Here the cyclists would regularly violate the one-way rule anyway.

He would like to legalize the state.

Tobias Brauner does not want to destroy any parking spaces, but he does want to ensure that the bicycle rivers run orderly throughout the municipality.

Finally, Angela Zahn (FDP) and Achim Zeppenfeld (SPD) spoke up.

They thought it was wrong to only be across Rathausstrasse without dealing with the overall concept of the town center in one package.

Fear: Business will no longer be approached

The smaller parliamentary groups were not heard and had to bow to the CSU majority.

For Gerhard Sedlmair (CSU) it is clear.

He does not want to sacrifice the parking spaces "because then the shops will no longer be approached".

Rathausstrasse will not get any wider either.

For him, safety comes first.

His parliamentary colleague Robert Zettel's request to speak went in the same direction: “You could say: 'We'll close it completely and pave it with cobblestones.'” But that would be a disaster for retailers.

The CSU prevailed with 7: 5 votes.

Rathausstrasse will not be opened.
