An agent of the Federal Penitentiary Service (SPF) was shot to death in front of his girlfriend when they were traveling in a car through the streets of Merlo.
Matías Ezequiel Banegas, 30
, was attacked by two criminals and died after being shot in the head.
The main hypothesis is that it was an attempted assault.
The incident occurred during the early hours of this Saturday at the intersection of Pearson and San Lorenzo streets, in that town in the west of the Buenos Aires suburbs.

Banegas, who would have turned 31 within a month, was an agent belonging to the SPF who served in Devoto prison.
Next to the car, the police found the victim's partner, named Antonella (22), who told the investigators that they were intercepted by a Renault Kangoo vehicle with two men on board, that both criminals got out, and when Banegas put reversing to try to flee, one of them
fired two shots.
One of those projectiles hit Banegas' head and after that the attackers fled the scene, without committing the robbery.
Prosecutor Javier María Ghessi, from UFI 1 in Morón, intervenes in the case, entitled "homicide," who ordered the replacement of municipal and private chambers in order to identify the perpetrators of the act.
