The survey was conducted in the form of an online questionnaire from January 4 to January 20, interviewing 312 young people aged 18 to 35.

76% of the interviewees are aware of the "Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Program" and nearly 70% think that the monthly salary of 18,000 to 26,000 Hong Kong dollars is "attractive" or "very attractive".

About 60% of the respondents think that the 18-month subsidy time limit is "attractive" or "very attractive", and 77.9% said that they would consider or actively consider participating in the plan.

The survey also pointed out that more than 70% of the respondents believe that the current subsidy quota is not enough, and 80% of them believe that the plan only covers the financial and innovation industries.

67.3% of the interviewees said that the plan is not enough for university graduates only.

In terms of specific considerations for young people, the two most important factors are salary (44.2%), living and employment environment (27.9%).

Fifty-one percent of the interviewees believe that "planning for their future career" is the greatest benefit of working in the Mainland, and 21% believe that it is "accumulating connections in the Mainland."

As for the reasons for not considering working in the Mainland, they are tax issues (30.8%) and salary issues (28.8%).

Request the government to expedite and expand the content of the plan

The Chairman of the Youth DAB, Shi Yongtai, said that the current plan is not sufficient for college students graduating from 2019 to 2021. It is recommended that the government relax the application qualifications to higher diploma, associate degree graduates and college students, and allow 2018 or before Apply for university graduates; expand to more industries, so that young people with different expertise have the opportunity to participate in the program.

Yan Wenyu, director of youth and deputy secretary-general of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong, pointed out that so far, there are only about 730 jobs planned for the time being, which is still far from the 2,000 places.

He hopes that the government can speed up the implementation of the plan; strengthen the publicity work for college students so that young people can learn about the specific content of the plan; and introduce mainland or overseas companies with operations in the Greater Bay Area to join the plan.

He also pointed out that the current unemployment rate for young people aged 20 to 29 is 11%, and that for 15 to 19 years old is 17.6%. The numbers are still rising. Therefore, it is necessary to relax the threshold of the plan to address youth unemployment in a targeted manner.

In addition, there are also many jobs in the Mainland that cannot be found in Hong Kong. Therefore, the government should do a good job in supporting the establishment of a "one-stop service center" to help young people find employment in the Greater Bay Area and provide support so that they can accumulate important work experience. .
