The government announced in the early hours of yesterday that Jordan was designated as a "restricted area." The decision came suddenly, and some businesses in the enclosed area had no time to prepare food and water for cats.

Among them, Sister Fang, the owner of the seafood grocery stall at 49-50 Xin Reclamation Street, asked the police officers for help outside the cordon today (24), saying that the cats in the cordoned area had been out of food and water for two days and hoped to feed them inside. Unfortunately, he was rejected, and was "pushed one by one" by department personnel.

By 1 pm, the district councillor Chen Ka-lang, who happened to be patrolling the street, witnessed the incident and reported to the Commissioner of Civil Affairs that he was told that he could arrange for staff from the Civil Affairs Department to assist in feeding the cats. At the same time, a neighbourhood heard the noise of cats from stalls. Worried about the cat being trapped, he notified the firefighter to break the lock to rescue the cat. One of the 25-year-old catwoman "A Choi" was successfully rescued and returned to the cat owner for care. Another 10-year-old cat escaped due to fright. The personnel have placed food and water for their consumption.

Yau Tsim Mong District Councillor Tan Ka-long said that "A Choi" was in good condition and drank half a bowl of water immediately after being rescued.

He believes that the government’s "closure of the area" this time has insufficient considerations and arrangements, and has not taken care of animals in restricted areas.

He continued that if any neighbourhood knows that there are still cats that need to be fed, they can contact him.
