President Alberto Fernández held a videoconference this afternoon with the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, with whom he analyzed the status of the negotiations that Argentina maintains in pursuit of sustainably restructuring the debt with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the state of the negotiations with the Paris Club.
From the Presidential Residence of Olivos, the Argentine president thanked Merkel for the support that Germany has been giving in the Monetary Fund, as well as it did at the time in the closing of an agreement with the private bondholders.
"We need you to continue accompanying us in the agreement that we eventually achieve," the president told him.
For her part, the German Chancellor said that her team of economic advisers has been closely following the issue of the IMF and the Paris Club, where she hopes that the agreement with Argentina will be reached.
"We have always supported them and we will continue to do so," he said.
In another section of the conversation, which lasted for 40 minutes, Fernández called for deepening the bond with Germany and Europe
and advancing with the necessary agreements from his role as President pro tempore of Mercosur.
"We have very deep ties that we have to continue developing," he concluded.
During the meeting,
Fernández informed his German counterpart that he closely follows what is happening with the Covid-19 Pandemic in Europe
and conveyed the progress of the vaccination plan in our country and on the acquisition of different vaccines against the virus. .
They also spoke about environmental issues and climate change, as well as the progress of agreements in the automotive sector, where the German company VW is the leader in our country.
Fernández had held a working meeting with the German Chancellor in Berlin, at the beginning of February 2020, in the context of a visit that also included the Vatican, Italy, Spain and France.
The leaders also addressed issues of common interest on the regional agenda, after the change of government in the United States, with Merkel being particularly interested in the situation in Latin America and the dialogue between Argentina and the different countries of the region.
