Brussels-Sana

The European Union Commissioner for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced that the bloc countries are not considering imposing sanctions on Russia over the case of the politician Alexei Navalny.

Russia today quoted Borrell as saying during a press conference held today after the conclusion of a meeting in Brussels of European Union foreign ministers that the issue of possible sanctions against Russia over the Navalny case is "not on the table now", indicating that there were no proposals on this matter, and therefore no Take any decision.

According to Borrell, the Europeans intend to convey their message to Moscow and inform it of their intention to return to discuss the future of relations between the two sides during the European Union summit next March, denying at the same time that Europe set conditions or set deadlines for Moscow to release Navalny.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had reported earlier today that Borrell will pay a working visit to Moscow from February 4 to 6, during which he will discuss with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov a full range of international and regional issues and the prospects for relations between Russia and the European Union.
