Climate Summit: Alberto Fernández called for 'greater commitment from developed countries'

Alberto Fernández participated this Monday in the opening session of the

Climate Adaptation Summit 2021

, where he ratified Argentina's commitment to the climate agenda and addressed the world's powers.

"Climate change affects everyone, but

its worst consequences are suffered by the most vulnerable sectors

," said the President, who called for action with "solidarity."

In addition, he called for "

greater commitment from developed countries

in the provision of technical and financial resources to expand efforts" in the fight against the environmental threat.

He also stressed that "the urgency of climate action" continues intact despite the fight that the world is deploying against the coronavirus pandemic and said that the summit

is a "collective opportunity" to give "a response to climate change."

The Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS) 2021 is a global online conference to accelerate, innovate and scale up the world's efforts to adapt societies and economies to the inevitable effects of climate change in the years ahead.

This year it is being carried out virtually due to the context of the coronavirus pandemic and world leaders, NGOs and international organizations participate in it. 

Fernández made clear the country's position on climate policy, in the midst of the pandemic.

"Adaptation is a priority in Argentina's climate policy, that is why we have decided to

confirm the commitment that our country maintains with the climate agenda

," said the president.

The head of state added that the Argentine contribution includes "an adaptation communication that seeks to strengthen resilience and reduce the vulnerability of the different social, economic and environmental sectors."

Within the framework of the two-day agenda, organized by the Netherlands, the

Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development

, Juan Cabandié, will participate in the first

meeting of the Ministerial Dialogue

, which will be opened by John Kerry.

CAS 2021 is a multi-stakeholder event, with the participation of governments from all continents, as well as business leaders, mayors, international organizations, academia, civil society and representatives of youth.
