Healthy eating for a person raises and improves immunity and resistance to diseases, especially during infection with the Coronavirus, which requires diversifying the sources of nutrients.

Nutrition rich in vitamins and healthy nutrients has its role in strengthening the immune system, according to nutritionist Dr. Diana Falouh, who confirmed in an interview with SANA the importance of following a healthy diet for a Corona patient during his isolation period because it contributes to strengthening his immune system and raising the degree of resistance to the virus.

Dr. Falouh explained the importance of preparing food under high food safety conditions, washing vegetables and fruits well and using them fresh to preserve their nutritional values, avoiding foods of unknown source and canned foods, and rationalizing the use of salt and sugar in food, pointing to the harm of excessive use of salt and the sodium element found in sauces that contain salts at high rates and avoiding From processed foods, sweetened juices, sweets, chocolate, flavorings and sweets because they contain high amounts of sugar.

Dr. Falouh pointed out the need to include carbohydrates in the diet in acceptable quantities, such as bread, rice, potatoes and pasta, in addition to vegetables and fruits that provide the body with the natural vitamins and minerals it needs, in addition to other sources of vitamin that the patient gets through nutritional supplements “C, D and zinc”.

Regarding the daily rations of food that the patient's body needs, Dr. Feluh indicated the necessity of obtaining three daily rations of milk and its derivatives from dairy and cheese, two pieces of fruits at least, and five servings of vegetables, in addition to legumes and protein such as fish, chicken and red meat 3 times a week.

Dr. Falouh explained the necessity of eating foods rich in fat moderately, relying mainly on vegetable oils in cooking, such as olive oil, sunflower and corn, and avoiding fats in their various forms because they are saturated fats, eating fresh meat and dispensing with processed and canned meats.

As water is an essential element in a healthy diet, Dr. Falouh advises drinking large quantities of it at a rate of 10 cups per day, pointing out that drinking “tea, coffee and mate” does not compensate for drinking fresh water because it contains a percentage of caffeine that expels fluids from the body.

As for Corona patients who suffer from digestive symptoms, Dr. Falouh indicated the importance of treating digestive problems that are most often manifested through diarrhea or constipation by drinking large quantities of water and eating vegetables and fruits as much as possible because they are an essential source of fiber, vitamins and minerals that the patient needs.
