The
Harry Potter
universe
is on the way to moving to television.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter
, the HBO Max platform is working on the development of a series that expands the world created by JK Rowling around the young wizard.
The project is only in its infancy, with WarnerMedia executives having conversations with potential screenwriters who may be in charge of the series, although those conversations are still at such an early stage that there is no agreement yet.
Both HBO Max and Warner Bros. have denied in a statement that the project is underway.
This expansion of the
Harry Potter
universe
seems to be a priority for both the platform and the media conglomerate to which it belongs.
The Wizard of Hogwarts is one of the most valuable Warner Bros. franchises for the more than 7,000 million dollars that the eight films that gave rise to the seven books of JK Rowling raised worldwide, to which we must add the films and series derived from
Fantastic Animals,
also belonging to the same universe.
Warner would like to leverage a brand as powerful as
Harry Potter
to consolidate its platform, HBO Max.
Its creator, JK Rowling, who has control of the saga both on paper and on screen, has the last word in any project related to her work.
In 2016, it signed an agreement with Warner that guaranteed the rights to show
the
Harry Potter
and
Fantastic
Beasts
films
on television and
streaming
until 2025
.
In addition, according to
The Hollywood Reporter
, I would agree with the expansion of that universe in serial format.
Harry Potter
would thus join other franchises operated by Warner through HBO Max, such as the DC universe, with titles such as
Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, Titans
and other series in development.
In addition, HBO is working on the development of several fictions derived from
Game of Thrones
,
the last great recent success of the channel.
To the prequel
House of the Dragon,
whose premiere is scheduled for 2022 on HBO Max, has been added the development of
The Tales of Dunk and Egg
, another of the stories written by George RR Martin set in the same universe.
It is a series of short novels set 90 years before the events of the series that follow the adventures of the knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Aegon Targaryen.
