Hong Kong initiated a trade dispute ruling request against the United States in response to the United States' request to mark Hong Kong's imports of American products as "Made in China."

The World Trade Organization (WTO) held its first closed-door meeting on the dispute on January 25.

The United States blocked this request at the meeting.

In response to China's implementation of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, the United States cancelled the special status granted to Hong Kong by US law.

Reuters quoted a copy of a speech on the 25th, stating that the US representative spoke at the WTO Dispute Settlement Board (DSB) during which he objected to Hong Kong's request to establish an expert group to resolve disputes.

However, the United States can only stop it once. Hong Kong is a member of the WTO and can make another request next month.
